Sometimes, a brief swim in the Hampstead lakes or a lazy day in one of our numerous parks is not enough of a respite from the urban jungle in the summer. Maybe it is just us, but the thought of a vacation where we do not have to worry about missed flights or long lines at the passport agency because of Brexit is appealing.

Even though the climate might be unpredictable, visitors to the United Kingdom will not be disappointed by the country’s many cultural attractions, shopping opportunities, and comfortable accommodations. You need not seek farther than these lovely escapes when you desire to get away from London with little hassle.

The Peak District

The Peak District is the mellower sibling of the Lake District, and it has a lot going for it. Like, charming market towns like Bakewell (home of the tart!), and miles of rolling hills. Also, the magnificent Chatsworth, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The Peak District National Park is a great place to spend a weekend strolling about or cycling (cycles can be rented from Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire) and stopping at places like the Devonshire Arms in Beeley for real ale and venison pie if the weather is nice.

New Forest National Park

One of the finest rural escapes close to London is the New Forest National Park. It’s the ideal weekend getaway for nature lovers and city dwellers, with over 200 square km and heathland, ancient woodland, and shoreline to explore. The shoreline of this national park is perfect for thrilling activities like sailing and kitesurfing, while the park has hundreds of kilometers of bridleways and cycling routes. The New Forest is excellent for anyone who loves nature and animals since it is home to free-roaming horses, rare breed cattle, and even pigs. To begin, stop at Blakeney Point to observe the seals (pups come in the winter), and then continue to Cromer to enjoy the town’s renowned crabs at The Jetty, take a walk down the pier, and fill up on local delicacies at the farm store.

Next, stop at the arts and crafts masterpiece Voewood House on your trip along North Norfolk Line from Sheringham to Holt. Finally, get some rest at The Chequers Inn, a gastropub in Thornham with plush rooms in a building dating back to 1499. On the other hand, if you are looking to spend, you may go inland here To Gunton Arms, a luxurious inn located in a deer park that serves a fantastic array of meat dishes.

Pennyhill Park, Surrey
