Discovering Australia’s Hidden Jewels: Unearthing Underrated Cities (Part 3)

Spread the love

There are several beautiful metropolises in this vast nation waiting to be discovered. Sydney and Melbourne indeed get all the attention, but Australia’s other, less well-known towns provide a lot of variety and are worth seeing as well. See a fresh side of Australia when you go off the usual route and visit its magnificent beaches, lively cultural scenes, and spectacular natural vistas.

Wollongong

Wollongong, a relaxed city about 80 km south of Sydney, is a great place to unwind. The town could be more beautiful, but it has an excellent background shaped like the lush Illawarra Escarpment. It is located near two beautiful beaches, making it a surfer’s paradise. Having so many college students in the area gives it a youthful atmosphere and makes for some great eating and drinking options.

The Southern Forests

The wines, caverns, and surf beaches of Margaret River pull the most visitors to the southwest, but the surrounding Southern Forests area offers a far more relaxed alternative. Forest towns with a relaxed vibe, such as Denmark, Pemberton, and Walpole, can be found among the area’s granite boulders and towering karri trees; wineries catering to a cooler climate dot the landscape; and tours that focus on nature, such as WOW Wilderness Cruises’ voyage to the Southern Ocean coast, are available.

The Fleurieu Peninsula

The Fleurieu Peninsula is sometimes overlooked since it is just the entryway to Kangaroo Island, but it has similar untamed coastline beauty and wildlife-spotting chances. It’s also home to the Shiraz-focused McLaren Vale wine area, which, although just as fantastic as the Barossa Valley, receives a surprisingly small fraction of its counterpart’s attention. With Off Piste Tours, you’ll see the best of both worlds, with the bonus of exploring private 4WD wilderness paths.

Launceston

Launceston, on the Tamar River, is the state’s second-largest city, and its citizens challenge those of Hobart, the state capital, in a friendly rivalry. The town may be tiny, but it has a thriving arts and cuisine culture and some beautiful examples of colonial architecture.

Cataract Gorge, a beautiful natural wonder with interesting hiking paths, steals the show here. Ben Lomond National Park is just a short distance away, and the wineries of the Tamar Valley are well worth the trip.

Hobart

Hobart is a great destination to visit, with a waterfront complete with attractions, a gorgeous mountain serving as a background, and the deep blue of the ocean lapping at the beach.

Hobart’s isolation on Tasmania, the country’s southernmost island, helped to conserve the city’s ancient structures and Victorian architecture, which had been mostly forgotten for decades. Now that the good times have returned, Hobart’s beaches are visited by many tourists every year who are drawn to the city’s abundance of activities and exciting atmosphere.

Noosa Everglades

Not far from the hustle and bustle of Hastings Street and the Noosa beach scene, you may experience something entirely different. Follow the rivers until you reach the Everglades, where goannas dart about the rustic campsites and lily pads part for the Exploration Group’s boat trips. The water in these lakes is oily because of the tannins in the trees.

Canberra

The Australian capital is a terrific destination since it is a planned metropolis rapidly expanding. The city’s early residents were bureaucrats and politicians, and now it is home to a wealth of cultural institutions.

There is a thriving bar and restaurant scene with plenty of options because of the city’s enormous student population. Canberra, a city in the middle of the Australian outback, is a popular tourist destination because of its abundance of exciting outdoor activities.

Esperance

Wild kangaroos hopping about on beautiful beaches with slogans like “The whitest in Australia” is about as stereotypically Aussie as it gets. Your startup kit for Australia is now complete with a can of beans and a sunburn.

If you can’t think of somewhere else in the world with a pink lake, you have to give Esperance significant props for being awesome. Take a short boat ride from Esperance to Lake Hillier, a naturally pink lake likely to be the most important thing you’ve seen in a very long time. A week spent among kangaroos on a beach or a pink lake is hardly your typical vacation.

Although gorgeous destinations aren’t often the easiest to get, Esperance is undoubtedly one of the exceptions. Unless you want to waste a week of your life waiting for the once-weekly flights to Esperance from Perth, you should take a few weeks off work to embark on a road trip that will leave your friends and family back at home green with envy.

At least once, you should see Australia for yourself and be mesmerized by its breathtaking scenery. The greatest of Australia’s underappreciated urban centers are discussed here. It will be helpful.
