2 Day Weekend Trip to Amsterdam- Travel Itinerary

Spread the love

There is so much fun in Amsterdam. From exploring majestic canals and ancient culture, historic instances and museums, giant parks and markets to captivating nature views with a bike ride, Amsterdam offers diverse things.

Here is the two-day itinerary for the weekend trip to Amsterdam:

Amsterdam Day 1

Morning

Walking Tour

If you are comfortable meandering freely around lanes and streets of Amsterdam on foot, you can start your city tour by walking. This tour will help you to navigate yourself easily. Your footsteps will give you ignitions of the city’s landscapes.

You can hire a local guide for a free walking tour. They will guide you on the routes to explore the Damrak. It is the home to the picturesque screen of canal houses, Royal Palace, ancient Dam Square, and the most popular Oude Kerk.

Besides this, if you want to visit the Red Light District, you can go without hesitation. In this District, you will be stopped by the flower shops. Those are amazing and spectacular. It is in the Singel canal where florists used to sell flowers on barges.

Canal Tour

When you are in Amsterdam, Canal Tour is a must. It is fun to do, but it is more thrilling in actuality. You can go for the canal ride on a big enclosed boat with other visitors. But, there is a better way to tour around the city. You can do what locals do every day. Just get a small rental boat without a captain and hop on the boat to explore the canal tour.

Afternoon

Afternoon time is to please your appetite first. But, Amsterdam is not the perfect place for food lovers. Foods are not so good, primarily spicy and fried. But you can have a delicious sandwich in your lunch. Amsterdam’s sandwich is famous for every gringo.

For better taste, you can visit the city center. There are some fabulous eateries and cafes. One of them is in Bijbels Museum. Another is Greenwoods, where you will have a lovely café eggs benedict to taste some excellent dishes.

Rijksmuseum

Rijksmuseum is an admirable destination in Amsterdam. This museum showcases an assortment of artifacts in 80 galleries describing the historical Dutch culture.

Another attraction of Rijksmuseum is the crowd outside the museum and the locals playing music to entertain visitors. On the other side, a giant ice ring is set there for tourists. If you are new to ice skating, you can buy a ticket and watch players practicing in the ring.

Van Gogh Museum

It is an unmissable destination in Amsterdam. The best time to visit this place is late afternoon to avoid queues. It is not a giant place to roam around, but the collection of 200 paintings and 500 artworks of Van Gogh and other impressionists will mesmerize you.

Evening

The Jordaan district is best for enjoying the nightlife in Amsterdam. Suburban areas have been developed and gentrified. At present, the upscale culture will invite you to enjoy lavish nighttime. Also, plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes, and stand-up platforms attract millions of people every year.

Amsterdam Day 2

Morning

Beginning with day 2, you can plan to hang out in the local markets. The most popular is the Albert Cuyp market, where you can enjoy shopping from an array of 250 shops. The other thing you can do is to try Fried kibbling and Stroopwafels. These are famous among locals.

You can also hit the Waterlooplein Flea Market, where you can buy anything with a considerable discount. Mostly antique pieces, crafted items, second-hand accessories, and snacks are the key attractions of this market.

Afternoon

Het Amsterdamse Bos

It is time for lunch, and you must be hungry. So you should visit Albert Heijn supermarket. Here shoppers sell different types of bread. Also, you can visit two famous destinations in Amsterdam; Foodhallen and Vondelpark.

The first one is an indoor eatery market and bar. Here, you can taste the alcohol of your choice paired with a dish of mouth-watering street food. The most exciting part of this market is its historic ambiance.

Vondelpark is a great place where you can feel a relaxed ambiance and explore many delicacies options. You can order here some high-end barbeque.

A tour on a Bike

On your second day after lunch, your journey will remain incomplete without a bike tour. If you rent a bike, you must follow only two things: notice the traffic rules and show your hand in the direction you want to take turns.

Your first destination on a bike should be Her Amsterdamse Bos, a very remote place in the Central Park of Amsterdam. Things to do in this park are to see the fountains, incredible sculptures, and delightful people, besides having lunch.

Evening

In the evening, you can do random things whatever you like. You can visit unusual museums where crowds are less. Even you go to Rembrandtplein to feel the night vibe of Amsterdam. This place is trendy among tourists; also, locals use to hang out in the place. Here, you will have breweries and bars to have a glass of beer or wine.

After finishing your drink, you can pick up your night snacks from Febo. The most alluring item of Febo is the Fried croquette.

The beauty of Amsterdam will fuel up your weekend tour. You need a good amount of time to explore the city. We hope our guided itinerary will help you pack your bag and fly to this wonderful destination. Lastly, read more about travel around the world here.
