Borith Lake
Borith Lake

One of the most famous lakes of Pakistan “Borith Lake Ghulkin” is the most pleasing and admired place and is considered to be one of the main tourist spots in Pakistan.  The lake is situated in the Gojal Hunza region of Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan with an elevation of 2,500 meters (8,200ft).  The site is approached by the Karakorum highway from Gilgit city and it takes 2km for a jeep to reach at the main destination from a village named Hussaini. Hikers can also follow trekking from the Ghulkin glacier which approximately takes 1- 2 hours to reach the site. On your way to Borith Lake, you can also glance at the beautiful and amazing Glacier of Ghulkin village. The lake is situated in the middle of beautiful rocks, snow-capped mountains, and greenish surroundings.  The lake has a green-turquoise color and the water is saline. The depth of the lake is approximately 84m and the length is 700m.

At the very beginning when there was no concept of tourism in the area the village Borith was a meadow only but gradually when there is a travel boom in the area the place carves its name as the most incredible tourist spot in the country. No doubt that the lake has its own pleasing beauty, but besides that, the whole area of Borith village is so amazing and beautiful.

As you become closer to the lake, the gentle waves of the lake will welcome you in an etiquette manner, the cool breeze from the lake and glaciers will give you a pleasant indication, and the grasses around the lake seem to be twirling in joy with nature. All these aspects show the amazing beauty of nature that God has bestowed on Pakistan. Borith Lake is a great place for boating, swimming, and hunting. Those who are adventure seekers arrive from various parts of the world to explore this amazing site when they visit Pakistan. Also, there are some winter specialties that attract a huge amount of traffic to the site, which include skating, ice hockey, and various winter sports. The lake is not only alluring in the summer, but it has its own glamorous properties in the winter too. This place is so peaceful that it takes all your worries away. You stop thinking about your exhausting routine and boring life. The only thing you have in mind is nature’s beauty, and you don’t want to come out of this pleasant taste of nature. The more you get closer to nature, the more you find a divine reconciliation in it.

People enjoy boating in this lake a lot, but a lot more of them are curious about swimming. Swimming competitions are also held at the lake, in which a large number of people take part, and this event is so entertaining. You can have a walk around the lake and capture this amazing beauty on your camera as well because, in the end, you just have memories in your life. Thousands of people visit the lake monthly in the summer, although in the winter the weather is so harsh that the flow of travelers to the site reduces. But it doesn’t mean that nature is only beautiful in summer. It’s outstanding in winter too, as the lake is totally frozen and if you are the type who welcomes risks in your life, then you can also dare to walk onto the icy lake and have an unknown experience.

There are several hotels, restaurants, canteens, and camping sites nearby the lake where you can have an amazing menu of the local foods of the area and also national and international cuisine. You can have your meal on top of the water, among the beautiful mountains and the cool breeze, which brings another level of pleasure to the moment. A lot of people travel to the site at night because they enjoy the moonlight in contrast to the lack thereof. When the moonlight hits the lake, it sparkles like a diamond, and it makes the whole scenario a lot more interesting. You can have a bonfire at the camping site at night and you can also experience the Wakhi folk music, which is so amazing.

The fun and adventure don’t stop here. There are many more amazing things to explore too you can also travel to the white glacier, which is closer to the lake. It takes 30-40 minutes to reach Shobood, which is the last piece of Borith Village and is called Zero Point. You can have a spectacular view of the Passu Cones and the white glaciers. The zero point is the beginning of many beautiful trekking places that are hidden among the mountains, and you can have a hike to reach the most outstanding concealed paradises as well. The trek which leads you to the pleasing and surprising white glacier is known as “The Afsang Trek”. You will really enjoy your walk along the trek and you can also discover the landscape of “Patundas Meadows”, loved mainly by foreigners and the most visited place in Borith Village.

So what do you think? Isn’t this place an amazing site to explore? Isn’t its beauty what catches your heart? Aren’t you curious about a visit to this beautiful natural art? Of course!
