When it comes to international tourism, New York City routinely ranks high. Known across the globe, this city has plenty to offer tourists of every interest.
New York City is a fantastic vacation destination since it offers many exciting activities and sights both during the day and later in the evening. In addition, there are a wide variety of things to do, such as taking a dinner cruise with a view, attending a Broadway musical, or listening to jazz. Read on for a few entertaining recommendations if you’re looking for something different to do in the city that never sleeps after dark.
Sunset From the Top of the Rock
Seeing the sun go down from the Top of the Rock Observatory is a great way to kick off a night out in New York City. Views of the Manhattan skyline may be seen from all three levels of this viewing deck in Rockefeller Center.
Top of the Rock’s popularity stems, in no part, from the unforgettable experience afforded by the chance to gaze at the Empire State Building as it glitters in the moonlight. One of the most photogenic spots in all of New York City!
Be aware that sunset is the busiest time of day at The Top of the Rock. So, it’s going to be busy, but the sights are fantastic!
Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge
One of the most recognizable symbols of New York City is the Brooklyn Bridge. Therefore, crossing the bridge at night is highly recommended, even though most people opt to do it during the day.
Enjoy the sights of the lit New York City skyline as you stroll and snap some memorable photos. Of course, it’s also a great plan to be out on the bridge when the sun goes down. But, of course, beginning your evening with a trip over the bridge means you can get right into the action in Manhattan or Brooklyn, depending on which side of the river you’re on.
Spend an Evening at a Broadway Show in New York
Seeing a show on Broadway is another fantastic choice for an evening out in New York City. They say it’s one of the finest things to do in NYC, and locals would agree. Musicals like Wicked and The Book of Mormon are among my favorites.
The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, and Moulin Rouge! are three more critically acclaimed musicals that have had enormous success. But, of course, I’m talking about the musical. If you want to see a fantastic musical, you shouldn’t limit yourself to those on Broadway.
Having supper early is preferable since most Broadway evening performances don’t start until 7 or 8 o’clock. The current Broadway shows and their times are listed below.
Going to the box office or a TDF outlet is one approach to acquiring cheaper tickets. But, generally speaking, it is more difficult to find discounts for new and popular series.
Ride on the Staten Island Ferry
The Staten Island Ferry is popular among New Yorkers and visitors alike, which travels between Manhattan and Staten Island. One of the most enjoyable after-dark activities in New York City is taking a boat ride. Amazing vistas of the city and the Statue of Liberty lighted up against the night sky await you on your 25-minute journey. A boat service is a great option since it’s free to use!
Take a taxi to Staten Island’s many restaurants and bars for a fun evening. There is a calmer, less hectic vibe at these nightlife spots compared to Manhattan’s bars and restaurants.
Visit the Museum Late at Night
On Target First Saturdays, the Brooklyn Museum is open until 11 p.m. There is free art and entertainment every month on the first Saturday, and you can walk around and take it all in. Always arrive early in the hopes of securing a seat at the theater or a spot in a class. A restaurant worthy of a Michelin star may be found here as well. If the pricey Saul restaurant is out of your budget, the bar is open late, and there’s also the Counter Café.
Experience New York City from the Air on a Helicopter Ride
Would you say that you prefer more exciting and risky pursuits? Helicopter rides above Manhattan at night are among the most exciting and unusual things to do in the Big Apple. Take in the lit skyline and some of the city’s most recognizable sites after dark. The charm of New York City will be shown to you in a new light.
Enjoy the Sights and Sounds of Central Park From the Comfort of a Horse-Drawn Carriage
If not the most renowned park, Central Park is certainly a contender. Daily, tens of thousands of people from around New York City visit Central Park, which spans 843 acres in the city’s midsection. A horse-drawn carriage ride around the park is a great way to explore the sights after dark.
The Central Park Zoo, Belvedere Castle, and Bethesda Fountain are just a few attractions you can see as you ride across the park.
Visit the Galleries of Chelsea
It’s no secret that the citizens of New York City have a deep appreciation for the arts. To the point where a whole section of the Chelsea Neighborhood is devoted to art museums and galleries. There are several art galleries on both 10th and 11th Avenue, from 19th to 26th Street.
One of my favorite things to do on a Thursday night in NYC when I was a poor student was to check out one of the many art galleries in Chelsea that usually had free drinks and snacks. So, if you’re tired of the same old things to do in New York, here’s a suggestion!
Only when night falls, and the lights of New York City are turned on is revealed the city’s real character. Many people are out and about, laughing and talking, and music is playing in concert halls and opera houses. At the outset of every given night in New York, many opportunities await.
