Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Tokyo

 

If you are in Japan and trying to make the most out of the unique scenic views of fall foliage then Tokyo is a great option for you. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is quite famous for it. The park contains three distinctive gardens which are combined into one beautiful park. The spot is like heaven for fall foliage photographers. Roam around and get bewildered by this mesmerizing Japanese garden. Walk over the deep maple leaves, and see the gold and yellow colors. Sorakuen Garden, Hyogo

 

In Kobe, Sorakuen Garden is the only traditional Japanese landscape garden. Previously, it was a private residence and was donated to Kobe city in 1941. Chureito Pagoda, Yamanashi

 

Chureito Pagoda is a stunning 19.5 m tall, five-storied pagoda that is a must-see place in Arakurayama Sengen Park. You will be amazed by the jaw-dropping magnificent views of fall foliage at the base of Mount Fuji. The Chureito Pagoda known as the Symbol of Japan is the perfect spot to take postcard photos of Mt. Fuji. Plan your leaf peeping trip to Fujigoko to get the most out of it. But always make sure to check the fall foliage forecast of the area. The best time to visit Chureito Pagoda for fall foliage is late October when the leaves of the deciduous trees start changing colors. However, the peak time is in mid-November and you can enjoy autumn leaves till early December in some areas.

Kurobe Gorge, Toyama

 

Kurobe Gorge is one of the three great gorges in Japan. The spectacular panoramic views, rugged landscape, and fall foliage will amaze you. If you want to explore this region to see the magnificent fall colors then take a train ride through Kurobe Gorge on Kurobe Train. Once you have been to this spot, you will agree that it is hard to get a true appreciation of its scale. The breathtaking spectacular natural views are a perfect photography spot. We recommend you check train schedules and fare ranges in advance as the train leaves at a variety of times and fares range from 660 Yen to 1980 Yen for adults.

Atami Plum Garden, Shizuoka

 

This plum garden boasts the fastest blooming plum blossoms in Japan and is also famous for enjoying the autumn foliage the longest. This park was opened in 1886 and is famous for its hot springs. Relax in hot springs and take a walk along to enjoy the flowers of the four seasons.  When in Shizuoka, don’t miss out on Atami Plum Garden at any cost. If you are planning your trip from January to March, you may take part in the plum festival period. The garden has more than 120 years of history. The autumn leaves are late in Japan. Contrary to plum, the middle of December is the best time to see shiny autumn leaves. Do check out the humpbacked bridge and the waterfall in the Atami garden.

Osaka

 

Osaka is also blessed with many spots to enjoy foliage, some are famous and others are lesser-known. The ideal time to witness the iconic fall foliage is from late November to early December. Minoo National park is Osaka’s preeminent spot for fall foliage viewing. The sight of the bright red leaves against the backdrop of the waterfall will surely amaze you. Osaka Castle Park, Midosuji’s Rows of Gingko Trees in Central Osaka, Hoshida Park, and Osaka Expo Memorial Park are some other great spots in Osaka to see fall foliage.
