Hidden Valley Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, California
If you want to camp out beneath the stars in the desert among saguaros and cactus, Joshua Tree National Park is the place to go. The park is located between the Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert, and it is a harsh and attractive camping place, given its name after the slow-growing and twisted Joshua trees that flourish there.
Campers at Hidden Valley Campground are in the middle of the park, near popular hiking and climbing routes, and surrounded by stunning desert scenery. At sunset, when the sky’s hues contrast with the park’s enormous landscape, the campsites and park take on an even more spectacular quality.
Channel Islands National Park – California
Channel Islands National Park is the perfect destination if you’ve ever felt the need for a genuine break from the rest of the world. The park’s limits include five uninhabited islands off the coast of southern California, and getting there takes a little over an hour from Los Angeles by car (not including the time spent on the hired boat).
