Trujillo, a historic town in Spain, is a breathtaking tourist attraction. There won’t be any other tourists here, so feel free to take your time and discover everything. You may indulge your inner history nerd by seeing some spectacular castles from the Middle Ages. Cácares is well-known to Game of Thrones fans, and the distance between Cácares and Trujillo is a mere 45 kilometers. House of the Dragon is set in an ideal region because of the atmosphere and scenery.
Spain, Caceres
This breathtaking location will serve as the Dragon Empire’s capital. Before the events of “Game of Thrones,” this area was also a part of the renowned Kings Landing. It is a must-see for every tourist since it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This old district’s contemporary tints on its ancient streets keep the locals happy.
Derbyshire
Smith was seen shooting in the Peak District, so the area’s verdant landscapes will likely make an appearance as well. In addition to the quarry on Eldon Hill, potential locations include the medieval settlement of Castleton and the Bronze Age fort Mam Tor.
Cave Dale, a dry limestone valley, is another setting; sharp-eyed viewers may recognize it from The Princess Bride.
Holywell Bay, UK

Monsanto
Located in Portugal not far from Cáceres, the town of Monsanto is known for its breathtaking hilltop setting, medieval castle, cobblestone alleys, and residences cut into giant granite rocks. Even though it doesn’t appear like any other hamlet in Portugal, Monsanto was chosen as the “most Portuguese village in Portugal” in 1938 because it had managed to retain its unique personality and the Portuguese way of life. Cornwall
The county in England’s southwest had its turn in the Westeros limelight. Driftmark, the old home of House Velaryon, is represented here by the world-famous St. Michael’s Mount. Only at mid- and low-tide can you cross the cobbled causeway to the tidal island where the St. Aubyn family has lived since around 1650.
The St. Aubyn family has a very unique arrangement with the English National Trust. Francis St Aubyn, Third Lord St Levan, donated a sizable portion of the island to the Trust in 1954. As part of the agreement, the family will have the right to reside at the castle and host guests for the next 999 years.
The Mount has been in the spotlight before. It has a small role in both the James Bond film Never Say Never Again and the more lighthearted Johnny English starring Rowan Atkinson. The castle also served as Dracula’s home in the 1979 film of the same name.
Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith) were photographed on Holywell Beach, and nearby Kynance Cove also makes an appearance in the series.
Watford, England’s Leavesden Studios for Warner Bros
Most of the interior sequences for House of the Dragons were filmed at the Leavesden Studios in Watford. Various pivotal moments in the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff will take place inside, particularly if one considers the parent series’ many power moves, for which it is famed. The LED video stage at Leavesden Studios was purpose-built to provide dynamic backdrops during filming in addition to being utilized for more conventional sets.
All the real-world sites where HBO’s House of the Dragon was shot are listed below, including those that have already become famous thanks to Game of Thrones, as well as others that were created just for the prequel.
