Iceland
As its name implies, Iceland is the country of ice and the home of magnificently large and high oceans, rivers, and streams. Various stunning locations and places might be the top travel destinations. The Svinafellsjokull Glacier waterfall, for example, has a beautiful hue. The surrounding snowbanks make it a wonderful sight to see in the winter.
The DC-3 plane disaster site at Solheimasandur Beaches is also a must-see. People have been visiting the location in the winter since the plane crashed to witness how the snow and the plane create such a lovely and bright mix.
Svinafellsjokull Glacier, one of Europe’s most beautiful large glacier tongues, is also worth seeing. Kirkus Fell, as well as Gullfoss, are also worth seeing. Many people visit Snaefellsnes Peninsula because of its natural beauty and ideal location for photographing and filming. Iceland is a secure area to visit, and there are several hotels where you may stay comfortably.
Mongolia
Mongolia is a large, landlocked country bordered by China, Russia, & Kazakhstan. It’s a nation known for divisive weather, with temperatures ranging from 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) in July to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit during January. Mongolia is also renowned as the “Land of Blue Skies,” a title that refers to the country’s constant exposure to the sun. The light beams brightly over the hills, deserts, and famed Mongolian-Manchurian grassland even when it is chilly outdoors.
The Ice Festival, held inside the Khuvsgul Lake area in the first week of March, highlights the East Asian nation’s winter season. Ice carving and horse sliding are two of the event’s distinctive competitions that need cold conditions. The Camel Festival, held in the shockingly cold Gobi Desert and organized by a local non-profit group to conserve and maintain the endangered Bactrian camel, is Mongolia’s other major winter event.
Locals gather for the two-day celebration to perform traditional songs and dance in honor of the animal that has enabled them to maintain their nomadic lifestyle. Looking for additional ways to enjoy Mongolia’s winter? Visit Terelj National Park, which is particularly remarkable when covered in snow. This time of year, remote dog-sledding trips are also available.
If you’re interested in rare species, head to a Gobi Altai High Mountain area, where the magnificent yet enigmatic snow leopard may be seen searching for its prey. These adventures all have one thing in common: incredible picture possibilities, so don’t forget your camera!
Slovakia
Slovakia may not have any Alps, but the tiny Central European country nonetheless boasts plenty of peaks worth visiting in the winter. The Tatras Mountains are located here, and they provide a variety of world-class ski destinations for a fraction of the cost of French and Swiss resorts. Rent a cottage and spend a few days in the hills, where you’ll find ideal weather for sports like skiing, dog sledding, and snowshoeing.
Bratislava, the country’s capital, is very reasonably priced compared to surrounding cities, including Budapest, Prague, and Vienna. The city’s picturesque Old Town and Choice, the country’s second-largest city, hold an annual Christmas Market. Look for winter specialties like bryndzové lucky & kapustnica when dining (a cabbage soup). Then wash it all down with a traditional Tatratea, a hot, alcoholic drink that will liven up any après-ski get-together.
If you’re still searching for something to do this winter, consider going to an ice hockey game, one of the country’s most popular pastimes. Although such an adventure may lead you to the following central metropolitan area, you should relish the opportunity since few things are more beautiful than a train trip through Slovakia’s snow-covered landscape. What’s even better? Because the nation isn’t on everyone’s bucket list, even its most famous sights aren’t packed – especially between November!
China
As they prepare to host the Olympics in 2022, the Chinese will strive to emulate Norway’s Olympic success. As a result, downhill event infrastructure is rapidly developing and improving, which is good news for alpine sports enthusiasts. Beyond that, China is a large nation that spans far further west and north than you may assume, with a wintry aspect that few people are aware of.
Winter gives a respite from spring crowds, and lodging costs are significantly lower. Even though there are several spots to enjoy the winter in such a moving country, a few stick out. Harbin, widely known as the “Ice City,” is one of these places, with temperatures averaging 10 Fahrenheit in January.
The city also organizes an annual Ice Fest, which showcases some of the world’s largest and most impressive ice and snow sculptures. The Yellow Mountains of China are another popular destination for photographers in the winter. Because the unusual rock formations are coated with snow, the conditions are melancholy during daybreak or on a very foggy day — so make sure to get your camera handy.
While we’re on hills, Mt. Emei is also a fairytale-like backdrop during the winter months. It’s a setting that brings the best of winter, with hot springs, magnificent vistas, and a neighboring ski resort – however, pretty much everything in China does, which means you’ll have plenty of options!
Banff, Canada
The lovely Ice Magic Festival features some of the most fantastic ice sculptings. The Big Bear tournament, held in February, features ski and snowboard experts that are guaranteed to make you go, “Wow!” Banff isn’t only for explorers; it also caters to cultural vultures with excellent eating, museums, galleries, & historic buildings.
