Many people would love to travel Europe one day! They dream about backpacking trough France, Italy and Spain for example. If you want to travel multiple countries, Europe is the perfect place to go to. It’s both safe and easy to travel between countries here and there’s so much to see! However, you don’t want your trip to cost you your entire savings. That’s why we have made a list of the 6 most affordable countries in Europe to travel.

1.Moldova

Moldova is a country in Eastern Europe that’s not really well-known to most people. Since it has managed to stay under the radar for most tourists, you can travel here for quite cheap. In this county, you can find all kinds of stunning highlights, like its Orthodox churches for example. While you’re in Moldova, you can also visit numerous cave towns and castles.

The capital of Moldova is Chisinau, which is filled with nature. In Chisinau you should also really visit Old Orhei, which is an important archaeological site. During your travels through Moldova, make sure to enjoy some of their fine wine. You should definitely visit the countryside too, since it’s really beautiful and peaceful here.

2.Georgia

Georgia is another beautiful country which has remained untouched by widespread tourism. In this country, you can enjoy their great food and amazing wine as well as visit stunning mountains. There are plenty of beautiful cities you can visit in Georgia as well and all of this without it costing you too much!

In Georgia, you should visit Tbilisi, where they serve a local kind of dumplings called khinkali. If you want to relax, you can do so in one of the many underground hot springs. In Batumi, you can explore all of the stunning mountain trails and just really reconnect with nature. 

3.Hungary

Although Hungary, and especially Budapest, does have a lot of tourism, its prices are still low and it’s definitely a country in Europe that you should visit during one of your travels. In the capital itself you can get really cheap and delicious food, which is great if you want to enjoy good food on a budget. 

One of the best things about Budapest is its ruin bars. These bars look really old and grungy, but they are amazing and you will definitely have a great time there! In Budapest you should also visit the Parliament building and enjoy some hot springs in order to relax. Lastly, make sure to plan your trip to Hungary at the same time as Sziget Music Festival. It’s one of the biggest music festivals in Europe and it’s something you should totally see!

4.Bosnia-Herzegovina

Even though this country was once ripped apart because of war, it is now mostly stitched together again. This beautiful country is completely safe for you to travel on its trails and there’s plenty to explore! It has stunning mountains as well as pretty waterfalls.

In Bosnia-Herzegovina, you should also visit its capital, Sarajevo. Here you can wander from tea shop to tea shop and enjoy all of their amazing little cakes. Another highlight to visit is Mostar. This is a small town in Bosnia-Herzegovina with a lot of history. You can walk through it’s pretty small streets or have a picnic near the river. Here, you can also see a bridge of 20 meters high from which the diving club dives off.

5.North Macedonia

This country used to be called Macedonia, but it has a complicated history with Greece. In its capital, Skopje, there’s plenty of things to do. You could visit a few of its many statues (rumor has it that there are more than a hundred statues in the center of the city) or just wander through the streets and grab a bite to eat.

Aside from the city, you can see a lot nature spots as well. You can visit the stunning Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia for example with its pretty and small shoreside towns. This place is perfect for a long hike as well. 

6.Armenia

One of the first things you must visit in Armenia is its capital Yerevan. Here you can look at all of its beautiful art and statues or enjoy some of the local cuisine. However, there are plenty of other places in Armenia that you must visit as well.

You could go to the Dilijan national park for example. This place is perfect for taking long, beautiful hikes. In the south of Armenia, you can find lovely, little towns with numerous stunning vineyards. The most popular vineyard here is Areni, which you should also definitely visit.
