1.Rome

Let’s start with the most obvious place to go: Rome. Rome is the perfect place to go to if you love an old city, since it has numerous highlights of which some even date back to the Roman Empire. In Rome, you can visit the impressive Colosseum or walk around Forum Romanum, which are the remains of an old, Roman marketplace. You can also visit the Vatican, the Trevifountain or many of the other highlights.

2.Florence

Another place in Italy you should visit is Florence. Although this place feels like it’s a small town, it’s everything except small. You can find the city in the Tuscan Valley and it has many piazzas, both large piazzas as small ones. In this city, you can spend hours walking around its beautiful streets and exploring all of the shops, restaurants and cafés.

In Florence, you should go to Piazza del Duomo, where you can find The Duomo. This is a breathtaking church that you should totally visit. You can also stop by Ponte Vecchio, which overlooks the Arno River. This romantic place is perfect to go to if you’re a couple and it’s even more beautiful during sunset.

3.Venice

Venice is a place in Italy that’s truly one of a kind. The reason that this city is so unique, is because of its canals. Venice has a lot of canals throughout the city, which reminds its visitors a lot of main roads. You can travel through the city using a water taxi or a bus, but the most popular and famous option is to use their stunning gondolas.

Although Venice is a popular spot among tourists, you can still find some peace and quiet in the city. For this, you should go to the smaller streets and canals that are a bit further away from the center. Especially the streets that are further away from the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco will be a lot less crowded.

4.Lake Como

Lake Como is the perfect destination in Italy if you love nature and you want to relax. It’s a large lake in a stunning, luxurious region. Here, you can just relax and enjoy your vacation in Italy’s warm weather. In the region around Lake Como, you can find a lot of luxurious villas and hotels, which are also available on the shores and the beaches. 

During the day, you can rent a sailboat or a speedboat and drive to the middle of the lake. From here, you have the perfect point of view of the stunning hills that surround the lake. In the evening, you and your family or partner can walk along the shores and eat at one of the many restaurants that are located nearby the lake.

5.Sicily

Sicily is an Italian island that has inspired many writers for years. It has some kind of mythical atmosphere to it, which is why it’s also the location of some Greek legends. This island is the largest island of the Mediterranean and there’s plenty to see here!

You can lay on the beach or swim in its clear blue waters. The amazing thing about Sicily is that it actually has beaches with black sand! On Sicily, you can also visit Mount Etna, which is the highest active volcano of Europe. Furthermore, you can visit a lot of different cathedrals or other archaeological sites in Sicily.

6.Pompeii

The last one on this list is one that you truly must visit. Although it’s more of a place to plan a day trip to, you should definitely go to Pompeii when you’re in Italy. This is a city that was covered in ash when the Mount Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79. Pompeii is both impressive as chilling, as the city has remained intact after the eruption.

This gives its visitors a look into the daily life of the people of Pompeii. During your visit to Pompeii, you can not only look at the houses (and even enter some), but you can actually see the remains of some people during the time of the eruption as well.
