When people think about Spain, they naturally think about the great beaches, Barcelona and Madrid. Some people might have heard about Seville as well, but that’s pretty much it. This is a shame, since Spain is an amazing country and has so much more to offer than just these things. That’s why we have made a list of hidden gems in Spain to discover during your next visit.
1.Ronda
Ronda is a fantastic city, where there’s plenty of things to do. The reason this city is so special and impressive is, because it was built on the edge of a cliff.
The locals of Ronda decided to build an enormous bridge in order to make sure there wasn’t a large gap in the middle of the city. This bridge is incredibly impressive and it’s the main attraction of the city for a good reason. To make it even better: you can even see a small waterfall down at the bottom of the bridge. In Ronda itself, you will find many small shops to wander in for hours and there are plenty of cute restaurants too.
2.Altea
If you’re a fan of Santorini in Greece, with the cute white and blue houses, you will love Altea in Spain. It looks a lot like Santorini, thanks to its white washed buildings everywhere. In this city, there are a lot of flowers too which make all of the buildings even prettier.
To top it all off, you can get a great view of the ocean from the city, which is absolutely stunning. You can find Altea in the South of Spain. Thanks to these beautiful buildings, tourists mainly go there to take photos, but you should visit their shops and try their delicious restaurants too.
3.The Pink Lake of Torrevieja
In Spanish, it’s called Laguna Salada de Torrevieja, which is the name for a bright pink lake in the middle of Torrevieja. In the area of Torrevieja, you can find salt mines and these are the reason that an entire lake in Torrevieja has the color pink. However, the pink lake isn’t the only colorful lake in Torrevieja as there is another one. The other lake is a bright turquoise, which makes both lakes amazing for taking some Instagram-worthy photos. It is also said that the mud in this lake is good for you and has some beneficial features, which is why many people smear it all over themselves, after which they can rinse it off in the lakes again.
4.Villajoyosa
If you’re looking for one of the most colorful places in Spain, you should visit the city of Villajoyosa. On the seaside of the city, you will find many colorful buildings. The reason that these buildings have such bright colors, is so fishermen would be able to see them and find their way back to the city.
Nowadays, the brightly-colored buildings are the perfect background for taking stunning photos. When you’re done taking your Instagram shots, you can also visit its gorgeous beach, enjoy the sun and relax for a little while.
5.City of Arts and Sciences
This place is perfect for those who love culture and architecture. In Valencia, you can find a place called the City of Arts and Sciences, which was built from 1998 to 2005. This complex has 7 buildings, which are all very impressive to look at. They even put this place on the list of the 12 treasures of Spain! Although the city is amazing to look at, there’s more to the buildings than just the way they look. There’s something to do in every building.
One of the buildings is a concert hall for example, while another one is a planetarium. The city also has a sports venue and a museum! Another popular activity in the City of Arts and Sciences is to rent one of their kayaks. These have a clear bottom, which means you can see right through them and then you can paddle around the pool that’s surrounding the entire thing.
6.Playa de la Granadella
If you’re looking for the most beautiful beach in Spain, this is where you need to go. Playa de la Granadella got this nickname for a very good reason. This beach is located along the cliffside, which makes it such a secluded area.
The shoreline itself is absolutely beautiful as well, thanks to all of the white pebbles there. Although this may not be great to walk on, it certainly makes for beautiful photos. There’s plenty of things you can do when you’re in Playa de la Granadella. You can go swimming in these clear turquoise waters or sunbathe on the beach for example. At the beach, they rent kayaks as well, which you can use to go to the sea caves. When you’re done relaxing at this marvelous beach, you can pay a visit to a nearby town called Javea.
